CMake is a cross-platform, open-source build system designed to build, test and package software. CMake is used to control the software compilation process using platform and compiler independent configuration files. MySQL replaced the GNU autotools with CMake on all platforms beginning with version 5.5.
Get the Code
Switch to /usr/local/src
and download the source package.
cd /usr/local/src
curl --remote-name http://www.cmake.org/files/v2.8/cmake-VERSION.tar.gz
Extract the archive and move into the folder.
tar -xzvf cmake-VERSION.tar.gz
cd cmake-VERSION
Compile and Install
Configure, compile and install into /usr/local/cmake-VERSION
.
./bootstrap --prefix=/usr/local/cmake-VERSION
make
make install
Create a symbolic link that points /usr/local/cmake
to /usr/local/cmake-VERSION
.
ln -s cmake-VERSION /usr/local/cmake
Shell
Add the following lines to your Bash startup script to put CMake and its Man Pages into your path.
echo 'export PATH=/usr/local/cmake/bin:$PATH' >> ~/.bash_profile
echo 'export MANPATH=/usr/local/cmake/man:$MANPATH' >> ~/.bash_profile
Load the new shell configurations.
source ~/.bash_profile
Verify the Installation
To verify that you have correctly installed CMake, execute the following command. It should display cmake version VERSION.
cmake --version
